The first blog I wrote about where I visited. Especially this visit was so important for me. Because I attended the conference(Balkancom19) and presented my article for the first time. I was so excited about it. I learned about the conference environment and what happens in the academic world.
There is a big debate :) North Macedonia or Macedonia. It is finally decided to use North Macedonia. If you say Macedonia to a Greek, she/he corrects you to ‘ohh it is called north Macedonia’ . 😂
Skopje is known as the ‘city of statues’. Actually, I didn't understand why they build a lot of statues and their meaning. But they provide a different atmosphere in Skopje. I googled on and learned that they had a massive earthquake in 1963 and lost their monument. After that, they have decided to build a lot of statues instead of the original.
Skopje has two sides according to the Varna river. People generally can have a relaxing time across the river and walking along the river.
But when I was here, its flow was too low. But I wanted to observe during the winter. There are a lot of bridges and ship restaurants in the river. I grab a coffee in one of them. It was so nice. Their meal is like a Turkish restaurant in terms of expensive versus quality. The most important meal is Skopje meat and beans. I remember that I ate at Destan restaurant. The other thing that I love is ice cream. They have a very different kind of ice cream. You can come across a lot of spoken Turkish people.
The other important thing I remember is that one person read the Quran loudly on the bridge, and he begged. It is so strange because they are very different things. If we have one day meal at least, begging is prohibited 🚫 .
Good luck guy!!
